The ecoFin combines sustainability with performance. We created the first sustainable surfboard fin based on recycled ocean waste.

A new surfboard fin: sustainable, lighter, game changing. The ecoFin is both a high performance recycled surfboard fin and a symbol for change. Supporting our project means that you will be part of a global movement to save our oceans.

Why a fin from ocean waste?

5 trillion pieces of plastic are floating in our oceans already! This number will tremendously increase if we don’t reduce the production of virgin plastic and take recycling more serious.

We are ocean enthusiasts. We are convinced that by developing innovative products based on recycled material, we can raise awareness about ocean pollution. And trigger a change!

Therefore, our first product is a performance surfboard fin based on ocean waste from Bali and we have a plethora of innovative ideas for the future.

The Product

We envisioned a product made of recycled material to meet all the expectations of surfers everywhere in the world.

We collaborated with shapers, material and fluid dynamics experts. And based on the expertise of our team of engineers, and designers we converted existing waste to a high performance fibre-reinforced composite.

Key benefits & design

The result is a fin lighter than conventional fins while still possessing absolute strength and perfect flex for surfers of all levels!

Based on our reinforced material, the ecoFin offers ideal stiffness for all small to double overhead waves and varied board types. We designed a solid flex in the base for controlled drive and a well responsive flex in the tip to accelerate your turns off the lip. And on top: the ecoFin is 15% lighter than comparable fins on the market!

Material details on recycled PP

Polypropylene – what you know from lids and packaging – has great properties and is the base material of our products.

Also this polymer doesn’t decrease in mechanical strength when recycled. We optimised the properties with long fibre glass reinforcement.  Through that we developed a performance composite material, which is just perfect for modern surfing! Strength tests, polymer degradation behaviour (UV treatment) and dynamic performance was conducted at several institutes, inter alia at the University of new South Wales.

Production

A modern moulding process ensures smooth fabrication and high accuracy on a professional level. For us it was most important to provide you with quality products. Therefore, we chose to produce with renowned manufacturers. These guys not only have 25 years of experience in their field they also produced a lot of fins already. .

Believe it or not, there is enough material floating in our oceans to make millions of fins, so we probably won’t run out of material.

The supply chain is secured, so is the production and everything needed to export globally.
