SOUTHLAKE, Texas - Sept. 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Barnes & Noble to Host Book Signing for Colleyville

Local author, Mark Fadden, will be available to sign copies of book

Ranked by Money and D Magazine, as one of the “Best Places to Live” in the United States, it is easy to forget where Colleyville came from. A rural farming outpost that started out as six different “parent communities,” residents eventually banded together and incorporated to become Colleyville in 1956. While Colleyville is named for Dr. Lilburn Howard Colley, entire generations of Colleyville citizens have displayed his spirit of hard work, determination, and caring for this city. From a few clusters of pioneering families to a close-knit community known for its dairy farms and horse racing track to becoming one of the nation’s premier cities, Colleyville’s population has grown from about 1,500 in 1960 to more than 24,000 today. The author of Images of America: Colleyville, Mark Fadden, describes the rudimentary stages of an emerging society in this interesting and exciting history of a dairy town. Employing a host of vintage photographs, Fadden details the life of the city from birth to present day, as well as the people to whom the structure of Colleyville is owed. Fadden inadvertently advocates his love of history as he offers this title, sure to become an essential piece of reference for all things Colleyville!

Highlights of Images of America: Colleyville include:

• The majority of images for this book have been donated from private collections of local residents.

• A 1935 Fort Worth Press article declared the Colleyville area the “Dairy center of Tarrant County!”

• The horse thief, John Alison Goldsmith, who was shot while attempting to escape Tarrant County Police, is buried in Colleyville’s Riley Cemetery.

I hope that residents and visitors alike will take the time to stroll through Colleyville’s historical buildings or visit a few places of interest and consider what they meant to those citizens who passed there before.

-Mark Fadden
