Follow on Google News | Jungfrau Railways and Tissot open new summit attraction on FirstBy: Jungfraubahn A suspension bridge at an extreme height, a narrow cliff walkway and an observation platform facing the Eiger constitute the core elements of the "First Cliff Walk by Tissot". The new circular summit trail alongside the First top station was officially opened on Wednesday, 16 September 2015. It is now open without restriction throughout the year to all walkers and hikers. Thrills and butterflies in your stomach at a dizzying height are guaranteed. The Jungfrau Railways have invested 1.5 million Swiss francs in the First Cliff Walk. The walkway, which features an approx. 40-metre-long single-rope suspension bridge, has been constructed alongside the steep rock face on the western side of the First summit and the mountain restaurant. It enables the geologically interesting, stratified cliff to be seen up close and makes risk-free vistas across the underlying Alpine pastures, watercourses and waterfall possible. A winding staircase takes visitors up to the First sun terrace from where a 45-metre-long observation platform seemingly puts the mountainscape with its up to 4,000-metre- Anchorage into the cliff, inclusive of core drilling, proved to be extremely challenging in the construction of this walkway. Much of the work on the cliff face was carried out from suspension ropes. The core drilling took more time than had been planned. A first part of the circular trail – the observation platform – was able to be opened in mid August. This already succeed in attracting many visitors in the first weeks. Partnership with Tissot The new circular summit trail owes its name to the long-standing partnership of the Jungfrau Railways with Tissot. The Swatch Group is supporting the new attraction with its Tissot watch brand, enabling the successful collaboration with the renowned Swiss watch company to again become even closer. A new Tissot shop on First is also being planned and is scheduled to be opened in the forthcoming winter. Tissot President François Thiébaud was present on the summit and declared: "We are extremely proud of our enduring partnership with the Jungfrau Railways which started on the centenary of the construction of the railway tunnel to the Jungfraujoch. Thanks to the "First Cliff Walk by Tissot" we are today giving the visitors to the Jungfrau Region another tremendous opportunity to discover this stunningly beautiful Alpine region. We are thrilled to be able to make this special experience accessible to the public. And we hope that everyone will be able to delight in it." Urs Kessler, CEO of the Jungfrau Railways, asserted: "The Jungfrau Railways are supporting the positioning of their adventure mountain "First – Top of Adventure" with this new summit experience."
