Local Author Holds Pre-Release Event at Aberdeen Day Celebration

Matawan Historical Society to host a pre-release signing of local historian, Helen Henderson’s latest work about the two Monmouth County areas of Matawan Borough and Aberdeen Township.

MATAWAN, N.J. - Sept. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- The Matawan Historical Society will host a pre-release sale of the latest history of Matawan Borough and Aberdeen Township as part of the 2015 Aberdeen Day activities. Local author, Helen Henderson, will be signing copies of From the Back Street to Main Street… And Beyond at the Society’s booth at the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional High School from 1 to 3 PM, September 26, 2015.

Thirty years in the making, From the Back Street to Main Street… And Beyond is a chronicle of the Methodist Community of Middletown Point from the time they were forced to build on the back street of the town to the congregation of today.

Through the use of handwritten records and photographs, this book presents a history of the Matawan United Methodist Church in Aberdeen (Monmouth County,) New Jersey. The history includes the context of the actions of the congregation, the reasons behind them, and the changes in the town of which the church is a part. Traditions of the congregation are interpreted in the light of lifestyles and culture of the times. Two-hundred forty pages long and 100 plates of photographs and artwork, the book also includes several chronologies as well as a comprehensive index.

About the Matawan Historical Society:  Established in 1969, the Matawan Historical Society is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of and education about the history of Matawan Borough and Aberdeen Township. The Society meets the fourth Monday of the month from September to June at 7:30 pm. It operates the Burrowes Mansion Museum, a local history museum located at 94 Main Street, Matawan. Tours are available on the first and third Sundays of the month from 2pm to 4 pm.

About Helen Henderson: A published author, feature-story writer and correspondent, Henderson is a past-president of the Matawan Historical Society and is the former director of the Burrowes Mansion Museum. She is the author of Around Matawan and Aberdeen and Of Town and Field:  Matawan and Aberdeen.
