By: Green Electronics Council CEO Alejandro Santacreu will participate alongside representatives from Hewlett-Packard, HP Labs and Electronic Recyclers International during the three-day conference’s opening keynote panel, “Electronics in a Circular Economy.” On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the second day of the Conference, Santacreu and Circular Devices Strategic Design Advisor Tapani Jokinen will lead a 90-minute session titled “PuzzlePhone: Santacreu will also be a panel presenter in the “Business Models for a Circular Economy” session. In addition, Jokinen will participate in a session called “Extending Product Use-Life.” “Current trends in mobile phones are not aligned with a sustainable longer life,” said Circular Devices CEO Alejandro Santacreu. “There is a need for designs that allow a simple way to extend the product lifecycle allowing easy reparability, upgradeability and reuse beyond the main primary purpose.” In cooperation with leading global conferences, Emerging Green is the premiere 2015 gathering of technology leaders to discuss the advances, challenges and future of sustainable electronics. With more than two dozen sessions and high-level keynotes, experts and thought leaders will focus on the unique hurdles and opportunities that electronics pose to a circular economy, from material selection and supply-chain social issues to closing the loop and emerging technologies. “Modular design can have a direct impact both on the sustainability of electronics and on the way we as a society use our devices,” said Scott Davis, Interim CEO of the Green Electronics Council, organizers of the Emerging Green Conference. “We are pleased to have PuzzlePhone participate in the Conference to provide an update on their organization and to help shape the conversation about the role of electronics in a circular economy.” PuzzlePhone is the first modular smartphone focused on sustainability.
