OXNARD, Calif. - Sept. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- The Oxnard Firefighters Association and Oxnard Peace Officers Association will kick-off its breast cancer awareness campaign on Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 4 p.m. at Collection Park at the Collection at RiverPark. The month-long effort aims to educate the public and raise funds for Ventura County Ribbons for Life.

The family-friendly event is open to the public and will feature music, food, a jolly jump, bike rodeo, an active hook & ladder fire truck and the DRAGG police car display. Attendees also have the opportunity to receive free kids bike helmets and sign up for smoke detector installation.

The beginning of breast cancer awareness month also means uniform changes for the Oxnard Fire and Police departments. In October, all fire personnel wear pink shirts and all police personnel wear pink lapel pins. The kick-off event gives the public the opportunity to join the effort by purchasing T-shirts or lapel pins. All proceeds benefit Ventura County Ribbons for Life, a non-institutional, independent grassroots organization that provides breast cancer education, advocacy, emotional, and social support to Ventura County. The goal of this year’s campaign is to exceed the $10,000 raised by the Oxnard Firefighters Association and Oxnard Peace Officers Association in 2014.

Pink T-shirts can also be purchased for $20 at www.oxnardfirefighters.org/pink.
