The Port of Savannah was the second busiest U.S. container port for the export of American goods by containerized tonnage in FY 2013. It also handled 8 percent of the U.S. containerized cargo volume and 10.9 percent of all U.S. containerized exports in FY 2013.

Future looks bright for Georgia ports with further connections to the global markets, especially Asia, via the widening of the Panama Canal and Savannah's river deepening project set for completion in 2017. China and Hong Kong account for 32 percent of tradeat Georgia's ports. In fact, with 400 weekly services to Asia, the Savannah port hosts more weekly services to that continent than any other East Coast port.
