New Business Book Summary for The Intel Trinity

By: EBSCO

Sept. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- In The Intel Trinity, Michael S. Malone tells the story of the three men who built Intel Corporation into the most innovative company the world has ever seen. He explains how Robert Noyce, Gordon Moore, and Andy Grove faced impossible challenges to build the foundation of an industry that made the consumer electronics revolution possible and improved and connected the lives of billions of people living in the Digital Age. These three men formed a “trinity” with Noyce as the charismatic father, Grove as the truculent son, and Moore as the holy spirit of high tech. After more than 50 years, Silicon Valley still bears the legacy of these remarkable men.

According to Malone:

*As the founders of Intel Corporation, Robert Noyce, Gordon Moore, and Andy Grove faced impossible challenges to build the foundation of an industry that made the Digital Age possible.

*Noyce and Moore, both highly skilled scientists, and six others formed Fairchild Transistors, which developed many important innovations. Over 100 technology companies spun off from Fairchild, contributing to the growth of what became known as Silicon Valley.

*Andy Grove worked with Noyce and Moore at Fairchild, contributing hard-nosed management skills that Noyce and Moore did not possess. When Noyce and Moore left Fairchild to form Intel, Grove also left to join them.

*At Intel, Noyce provided the vision and ability to take risks, Moore provided precise technical leadership, and Grove drove operations, ensuring Intel stayed ahead of the competition.

*Moore proposed "Moore's Law," a prediction that the production of integrated circuits was growing at an exponential rate, making the products that embodied them smaller, cheaper, and denser with transistors.

*Even when the semiconductor business had downturns, these three men continued to make risky investments that were needed to keep up with Moore's Law so Intel could continue to be competitive.

*Intel's adherence to Moore's Law has proved to be more important than technological innovation to the long-term viability of Intel.
