PORTLAND, Ore. - Sept. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- What can three years of environmental leadership tell us about the future of the mobile phone market? Can “green cell phones” deliver financial benefits in addition to environmental ones? These questions and more will be answered during a keynote panel hosted by UL Environment at the Green Electronics Council’s Emerging Green Conference. The UL Environment panel will take place Wednesday, Sept. 23, the second day of the three-day international conference being held in Portland, Oregon.

The keynote panel, called “Sustainability in Your Pocket,” will showcase lessons learned since the debut of the UL 110 environmental standard for mobile phones. In those three years, phone manufacturers, wireless carriers and institutional buyers have seen both environmental and market-driven benefits. UL 110 is in the final stages of completion and will soon be considered for incorporation into EPEAT (http://www.epeat.net/), the definitive global rating system for greener electronics.

Darren Beck, Director of Environmental Initiatives & CR Innovation for Sprint, and Stacey Foreman, Sustainable Procurement Program Manager for the City of Portland, will join UL Environment’s Donald Mayer for the hour-long breakfast panel.

“The exponentially growing volume of mobile phone manufacture and purchases can drive very positive impacts for the environment and the bottom line,” said Donald Mayer, Global Sales & Business Development Manager at UL Environment. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity of this keynote to share some of the positive outcomes generated by the UL 110 environmental standard.”

In cooperation with leading global conferences, Emerging Green is the premiere 2015 gathering of technology leaders to discuss the advances, challenges and future of sustainable electronics. With more than two dozen sessions and high-level keynotes, experts and thought leaders will focus on the unique hurdles and opportunities that electronics pose to a circular economy, from material selection and supply-chain social issues to closing the loop and emerging technologies.

“UL Environment’s breakfast keynote is a wonderful fit for this year’s Conference theme of electronics in a circular economy,” said Scott Davis, Interim CEO of the Green Electronics Council, organizers of Emerging Green. “The insights that UL, Sprint and the City of Portland will share demonstrate that the benefits of sustainable electronics aren’t just in our collective future, but have already begun emerging in key device categories.”
