Minimally-invasive surgery can repair veins, reduce downtime from surgery says Dr. Presant

Discomfort is minimal, with most patients requiring no pain medication after the procedure.”

The procedure may be recommended when diseased veins are suspected, but not visible on the skin’s surface. It may also be advised for the purpose of diagnosing an underlying venous condition when visible varicose or spider veins are present.

Ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure that uses sound waves to locate and diagnose a variety of conditions. When used during treatment, ultrasound locates the specific vein requiring treatment and assists the physician in guiding the needle directly into the vein.

“The technology allows us to be very precise,” Dr. Presant explains. “Once the needle is in place, a sclerosing agent or laser energy can be delivered into the vein, causing the affected vein to seal shut.
