By: Nu Deco Ensemble “We are thrilled that our debut concert received acclaimed reviews and was a tremendous success allowing us to launch a full performance season with a variety of collaborators,” Nu Deco Ensemble conducted a sold out show for an audience of more than 200 people at its debut concert last April at the Light Box. The September 25 and 26 performances will be conducted in collaboration with musical artist Brika. Below is a list of the works to be performed during “Concert One" · Urban Sprawl by Clint Needham · Octet by Marc Mellits · Bladed Stance by Marcos Balter · Draw Me the Sun by Greg Simon · LCD Sound system Suite by Sam Hyken Nu Deco’s 2015-16 ‘Season One’ is highly innovative and eclectic featuring six different programs including Concert One- Nu Deco at the Light Box, Concert Two- Water Music at the Deering Estate, Concert Three- Nu Deco at the North Beach Band Shell, Concert Four- Nu Deco at the Light Box, Concert Five- Miami in Concert Against Hate (presented by the Anti-Defamation League) and Concert Six- N u Deco at the Light Box. Hyken has a diverse and successful orchestral musical career spanning the globe. He is on the faculty at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, a performer (trumpeter), producer, arranger, and composer. Hyken co-founded Nu Deco Ensemble with Jacomo Bairos, a Miami native, who is the musical director of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra. At only 20 years old, Brika is an American Singer/Songwriter who was selected by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers as the Latin on the Spot in June 2014. Named Artist on the Verge by New Music Seminar, she released her first album, Voice Memos, in December 2014. Nu Deco Ensemble, a recipient of a 2014 Arts Challenge grant in the amount of $75,000 from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, is a vehicle to connect artists in Miami with one another to inspire collaborative performances. The group also provides leadership in genre-bending musical exploration to create new hybrids of musical expression. Based in Miami, Nu Deco Ensemble is a virtuosic and eclectic chamber orchestra designed for the 21st Century.
