Follow on Google News | EU Commission Publishes Standard EN 747 on Bunk and High Beds SafetyNew European standards for bunk beds and high beds have been published and will supersede the existing European standards no later than November 2015.
Main Changes to EN 747 The main changes contained in EN 747-1:2012+A1: The scope of the standard now applies to bunk beds with an upper surface of the top bed base of 600mm or more and to high beds with a height to the upper surface of the bed base of 600mm. The previous version of the standard applied to bed base heights of 800mm. Head entrapment safety requirements have been added which apply only to openings where the lowest part is above or equal to 600mm from the floor. Requirements for the ventilation of the bed base have been defined as a minimum ventilation area of 35 cm squared, which can be fulfilled for example by 8 holes with a diameter of 24mm Instructions for use, warnings and markings have been amended.
