AMMAN, Jordan - Aug. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Technology is evolving at a rapid pace while consumers around the world try to keep up with the advancements. The TV industry has seen a spurt in its technological innovations, and one technology which has shown steady growth in the global consumer electronics market is the Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV. UHD TVs have improved on the existing technology of High Definition (HD) TVs, enhancing the visual experience with features such as stunning contrast, striking brightness and spectacular color.

Though UHD TV has quickly grown in popularity among consumers, there is a lack of awareness on what encompasses a UHD TV. This has led to challenges in the Middle East and North Africa region where lower-quality TV displays are marketed to consumers as delivering UHD quality. According to Digital Europe (DE), a European association for consumer electronics appliances, UHD TV is defined as comprising of 3,840 pixels by 2,160 pixels, with an overall definition of 8 megapixels. DE advocates for the protection of consumer rights by certifying products that satisfy this resolution.

UHD TVs are designed to provide a superior visual experience thanks to HDR and nano-crystal technology, and have been developed with newer panels, BLU, algorithm and nano-crystal material. A UHD TV, also called a 4K TV, is designed to have twice the brightness of a 3K TV. Hence, if UHD content is viewed on a 3K TV, the lack of adequate pixels on the latter leads to an obvious degradation of picture quality. In addition, Digital Europe (DE) has started placing certification logos on UHD TVs in Europe to help customers differentiate 3K and 4K TVs easily.

Another consideration for consumers when buying a UHD TV is its ability to broadcast content from local TV channel providers. While many TV channel providers in the region are looking to provide UHD content in the near future, consumers should ensure they are able to view current TV content when they purchase a UHD TV.

Samsung Electronics has been a leader in the TV segment through the introduction of an extensive line-up of superior TVs over the years. As part of its continued efforts to provide consumers with the best quality and services, Samsung Electronics has announced the UHD Alliance earlier this year. The UHD Alliance is a new coalition of companies united to set the bar for next generation of video entertainment. New standards are being implemented to support innovation in video technologies, including 4K and higher resolutions, high dynamic range, wider color gamut and immersive 3D audio. The UHD Alliance is a step forward in Samsung Electronics’ efforts to construct a comprehensive UHD ecosystem for consumers.

With continuous advancements in technology, the TV is evolving from an appliance that consumers used to enjoy visual content into instruments of change in consumers’ lifestyles. However, TVs marketed as 4K are being sold to unsuspecting buyers for lower prices. This often leads to confusion as these TVs may not be capable of displaying UHD content. With an increased awareness on UHD TVs and its technologies, consumers will soon have the knowledge to make informed decisions on their TV purchases, thus making it possible for them to obtain the quality viewing experience they desire.
