Aug. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Applying garage floor coatings can provide homeowners and business owners with a number of benefits, including an improved appearance for their garage floor as well as enhanced longevity and durability. Even so, obtaining those many benefits is dependent upon ensuring the coatings are applied correctly to the surface. Sundek of New Orleans has recently released tips to assist in the application of epoxy garage floor coatings.

As Scott Burley of Sundek of New Orleans points out: "One of the most important factors in the success of garage floor coating applications is the selection of the roller. When working with epoxy garage floor coatings, there is an extremely limited application period. For this reason, it is often better to choose a larger roller rather than a smaller roller, which will take far longer to apply the coating."

The type of nap on the roller used to apply the coating should also be considered. A common mistake is using a heavy nap roller, such as a 3/8-inch nap roller. The problem with this type of roller is that it will typically introduce air into the epoxy coating. That air will then bubble up to the surface of the coating during the curing process. Such bubbles might or might not pop, but the result is usually a poor-quality finish that may even need to be redone.

Inexperienced technicians may find that lint or fuzz commonly appears in garage floor coatings. The best way to help eliminate this problem is to use vinyl tape for removing the lint or fuzz from the rollers. Simply roll the roller over the adhesive side of the tape in order to remove lint and/or fuzz from the roller and proceed with applying the coating.

Finally, it is important to ensure the roller being used when applying coatings has a solvent-resistant core. Without this type of core, the roller will be far more likely to fall apart when applying garage floor coatings.
