Follow on Google News | Horse Sanctuary Damaged By Mini TornadoBy: Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation Damage More Than $10,000 PALM CITY, Fl - The Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation property (ERAF) in Palm City was struck by what appeared to be a small tornado on Tuesday, August 25, according to Denise LeClair-Robbins, president of the non-profit that offers a safe haven for abused and neglected and slaughter-bound horses. “ Fortunately no one was injured but it did more than $10,000 in damage to our property,” stated Denise. “We don’t have the funds to purchase the materials needed and we are very concerned about the approaching storm Erika.” Of most concern, is the fencing on the nine-acre property which fronts onto Martin Highway which has very heavy traffic. Replacing the fencing has been in the planning stages but this elevates the priority to an emergency status. One of the horses broke through his paddock area and cut himself on the debris. Other damage included several outdoor horse shelters, an outdoor canopy and outdoor furniture. The nine-acre property is located at 6400 SW Martin Highway, about two miles west of the turnpike entrance. ERAF purchased the property in April 2014. They currently have 18 horses on the property. “We would really appreciate any support we can get from the public to help us purchase the materials needed. We’re lining up work crews for Saturday but we need all the materials here so we can get the job done properly,” pleaded Denise. If you would like to make a donation you can go online to www.eraf.org. For further information, contact the ERAF barn at 772-220-0150. You can reach them by email at eraf2000@gmail.com.
