Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology's Fall 2015 Issue Investigates The Future of Drones

Aug. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- The widely distributed STEM trade magazine Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology will cover the work and views of Michael Huerta, Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, in its Fall 2015 feature story. This story explores the fate of commercial unmanned aerial vehicles, also called UAVs or drones, in the United States.

In “Freedom to Drone: Why Unmanned Aircraft Systems Are the Future”, authors look at the many ways in which Mr. Huerta and the FAA are working to keep our skies safe. This story comes at a time when drone use is soaring nationwide – both by hobbyists and businesses. The publication looks at potential personal and commercial uses, privacy and other concerns, educational initiatives and guidelines, along with research and testing plans for ensuring safe integration into the national airspace. The article also touches on new rules that propose operating limitations aimed at reducing risk to other aircraft and to people and property on the ground. The future of this next-generation technology is not only of interest to hobbyists but also air traffic controllers, aviation safety inspectors, airway transportation systems specialists, engineers, program managers, and technicians.

Mr. Huerta is a nationally recognized expert on the use and evolution of unmanned aircraft in the United States, named one of Eight Most Influential People in Drones. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Riverside along with a master’s degree in International Relations from Princeton University. Mr. Huerta has held positions as the Commissioner of New York City’s Department of Ports, International Trade and Commerce, as Executive Director of Port of San Francisco, and as Chief of Staff for the Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C.
