LaTrobe University strengthens ties with India by extending relationship with JSS University Mysore!

BANGALORE, India - Aug. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- La Trobe University is a multi-campus university in Victoria, Australia and has been one of Australia’s pioneering universities for forty seven years. The University encourages students and staff to gain international experience and develop a curriculum and research programs of International Standards.

La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar visited India this month with Minister for Education and Training, Christopher Pyne, to formalise the agreement and further enhance the existing relationship.

As a result, La Trobe University has officially continued a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University (JSS) in Mysore, for another five years.

With the renewal of this MoU, La Trobe and JSS will work closely on a community research project to investigate the effects of herbs and spices on the cognitive function of patients with type two diabetes. Leading scientists from both universities will be involved in this project.

La Trobe University has contributed a $30,000 scholarship towards the project.

Professor Dewar said La Trobe has always shared a strong connection with India and continuing the MoU would be of great benefit to both universities.

“We are proud to partner with Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University and look forward to working even more closely in future,” Professor Dewar said.

“Gaining international experience – both culturally and academically – is a fantastic opportunity that we want to offer to all of our staff and students.

“This agreement will provide exciting new opportunities for student and staff exchange, as well as the sharing of research, teaching, and other programs.

As a result of the continued MoU, the two Universities will:

- Agree to promote exchange and co-operation in agreed areas of academic research and teaching

- Facilitate exchange of research, publications, teaching and other areas of mutual interest

- Discuss student exchange

In 1967 at its inception, La Trobe’s founders made a commitment to study the Indian subcontinent. This was reflected in staff appointments and the decision to purchase of the Borchardt Library, which boasts the most extensive collection of recent Indian artefacts in Australia.
