NIÑA / PINTA / SANTA MARIA

Celebrating the Rich Traditions of Hispanic Heritage

Opening September 3 in Ansin Family Art Gallery

(Miramar, FL - August 26, 2015) Valerie Norman Gammon, Director of Cultural Affairs for City of Miramar today announced that the first of this season’s five upcoming art exhibitions would open soon at the popular, multipurpose Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark Ansin Family Art Gallery.

September 3 through October 30, 2015

NIÑA / PINTA / SANTA MARIA

A collection of art pieces that celebrate the distinct, vibrant and rich traditions of Hispanic Heritage from four distinct artists:

+  Joan Belmar from Chile. After moving to Spain at the age of 24, he began using the Catalan name Joan for his first name (John) and was granted permanent residency in the U.S. in 2003 based on his extraordinary artistic merit. Belmar originally became well known for his unique technique of 3-D painting, combining his former painting and collage techniques with painted and untreated Mylar and acetate strips in circles and curvilinear shapes. His latest series of paintings is two-dimensional and explores the psychological and cultural divisions that affect the way people see the world around them.

+  Aimee Perez from Cuba. Now a resident of Miami, Perez works with the human form with a special interest in gesture and emotions that both deal with life and relationships but also serve as archetypes that transcend the context of society. Exploring Biblical and contemporary themes, she creates sculptures that explore spiritual truth and the paradoxical themes of suffering and redemption, grief and comfort.

+  Francisco Pazos from Spain. This rising international sculptor and artist has won many awards for his work, including “new value” scholarships at the Pontevedra Biennial in 1983 and 1984; the Pontevedra Bronze Media in 1990; and the prestigious Anton Forges Award in 2008.

+  Octabio Cuellar, who is Yuoslabian/Cuban. “In this hyper-reality, the present, the past and the future coexist; one only has to look more deeply,” declares the artist. Born into a dimension where “Giorgio De Chirico” already existed, the Mona Lisa, the Impressionists, the Dadaist movement, he chose the limit of suggestion, mixing  a little of his personal life with the intellectual, searching inside himself and others. It was necessary to look internally and change spectator’s rational perception. In his oeuvre, living things are absent, whereas inert or “fantastic” things are present.

"We invite art fans to join us for this exciting and insightful exhibition that celebrates Hispanic heritage,” says Ms. Gammon. “Guests can also enjoy the Vanishing View, a permanent creative art feature located at the border of the lake created by Alison Sky. Best of all, the Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark is easy to get to and a great place to relax and appreciate the arts.”

The Ansin Family Art Gallery within the Miramar Cultural Center/Arts Park is located at 2400 Civic Center Place. Parking is free. For more information, please call 954.602.4525 or visit www.miramarculturalcenter.org. The next art exhibition opening in the Ansin will be:

November 5, 2015 through January 11, 2016

PURVIS ON PAPER

A unique exhibit filled with 30 works by internationally renowned, Miami-based artist Purvis Young. His work, often a blend of collage and painting, utilizes found objects and the experience of African-Americans in the South.

About the Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark:

The  Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark was created to celebrate creativity and diversity within the city. This landmark is a vibrant, urban destination located in the heart of the Miramar Town Center, situated adjacent to City Hall. Centrally located, the Center consists of an 800-seat theater, two art galleries, banquet facilities, a full-service kitchen, rehearsal halls, classrooms, a botanical garden, and more. Within walking distance of a main library, shops, restaurants, and fitness center, it is the perfect place to see a live performance, enjoy a day of family fun, have a meal, attend a lecture, or stroll through the galleries.

The  Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark is a collaborative effort of many who share a fundamental commitment to the arts as essential to building a strong and vibrant community. The project is funded in part by Broward County through the Broward County Board of Commissioners with proceeds from 2000 Safe Parks & Land Preservation Bond. The Center also acknowledges the support of the State of Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
