WICHITA, Kan. - Aug. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Barnes & Noble to Host Book Signing for Botanica: The Wichita Gardens

Local author, Keith Wondra, will be available to sign copies of book

It started with John Firching’s early 1970’s dream. The Wichita superintendent of landscape and forestry along with the Board of Park Commissioners envisioned a botanical garden in Wichita, Kansas. In 1987 the gardens opened on the site of Wichita’s Sim Park. Growing from a mere four gardens in 1987 to twenty-nine in 2015, The Wichita Gardens has become a regional attraction! Images of Modern America: Botanica, The Wichita Gardens tells the story of the people, events, and stories that have shaped Botanica into Wichita’s supreme garden. Included are images of the garden throughout Botanica’s 28-year history and the earlier history of Sim Park, many of which have never been published before. The Sim family, who donated the land that became Sim Park, is pictured with history about their role in shaping Wichita’s backyard. Called a “mecca for lovers,” Botanica, The Wichita Gardens’ gorgeous and exotic plants express the community’s passion for the splendor of gardens. Completing his third title with Arcadia Publishing, Keith Wondra has given Wichita residents and tourists alike a fantastic compilation of vivid photographs and historical information to capture the essence of a profoundly rich collection of nature’s beauty – The Wichita Gardens.
