Follow on Google News | Women entrepreneurs to assess Kenyan Government Procurement PracticesKenya’s Federation of Women Entrepreneur Associations has requested its members to participate in PFMConnect’s current global public perception survey in order to provide their views about the government’s current procurement practices.
By: PFMConnect PFMConnect, a public financial management consultancy, is conducting a worldwide online survey at present to assess the public acceptability of procurement practices adopted by governments and other public sector organisations. Good procurement practices are necessary to: · Obtain effective service delivery; · Ensure that public money goes as far as possible; · Encourage a strong and competitive business sector; · Defeat the debilitating effects of corruption. The Kenyan government, like many governments, is responsible for spending huge sums of public money on service delivery such as schools, hospitals and roads. A substantial proportion of this money goes on contracts for goods and services obtained through a wide variety of procurement practices. The Kenyan government has recently amended its procurement rules to allow 30% of contracts to be given to the youth, women and persons with disability without competition from established firms. The Federation of Women Entrepreneur Associations has actively sought to raise member’s awareness about the government’s new procurement policy and the resulting potential business opportunities for women entrepreneurs over the last year and a half. This organisation is now requesting its members to participate in PFMConnect’s current global public perception survey. Women entrepreneurs in any country who are interested in bidding for government contracts in their respective country are invited to participate in the survey. The survey includes questions seeking respondents’ PFMConnect will report the results on its website. The survey results are expected to assist governments and other interested parties to identify key targets for the improvement of procurement practices and to validate public perceptions of improvements already made.
