Annual Heywood Golf Classic Raises $100K for Mental Health & Substance Abuse Initiatives

GARDNER, Mass. - Aug. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Gardner, MA – Heywood Hospital's Golf Classic, held on August 17th at the Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, raised $100,000 which will allow Heywood Healthcare to continue to move forward with critical mental health, suicide prevention and addiction service initiatives, including the recently approved plans for The Quabbin Retreat, the proposed site for Heywood Healthcare’s new behavioral health and addiction service facility.

Golfers were awarded prizes by the Oak Hill Country Club’s Golf Pro Bucky Buchanan, focusing on a Jack Daniels promotion by Athony’s Liquors owner Jim Kraskouskas, with first place team net of 50.8 turned in by Jack Klemenich, Mark Baker, Steve Baker, and Mark Fernandez, followed at 51.4 which was posted by Ric Perry, Ken Arsenault, Kevin Mack and Pete Trudel.

Third were Tom Lavallee, Paul Kemp, Joe Andruzzi, and Pete Zamine at 52.4 with a fourth place finish by Jay Drake, Elliott Drake, David Drake and Bill Frank.

Scramble ladies team net was taken by Dr. Sheila Donnelly, Ruth Ebert, Katherine Upchurch, and Tina Santos at 57.6. Team net had three prizes, first going to Doug Gerth, Roger Tousignant, Brian and Erin Mack at 58.3, second turned in by Joey Vaine, Steven Vaine, David LeBlanc and Ann Abare at 58.4, with third going the way of Bill McAvoy, Eric Overstrom, Jo-Ann Alessandri, and Mike Grilli.

Best ball men went to Doug Starret, Roy Lake, Joel Shaughnessey and Mark Sprague with a low of 58, while the team of Brian Fors, Rick Mansfield, David Bennet and Tim McGee was a stroke away at 59.

Best ball mixed foursome had a best unit of 52, turned in by the group of Peter Massicotte, Matt Massicotte, Hillary Azzoni and Michael Azzoni.

Closest to the pin awards were picked off by Judy Griffin and Gerry Foley at the fiffh hole, Judy Griffin and Matt Massicotte at the eighth hole, Tina Sbrega and Mickey Acton at the 13th, Elexa Bonogofsky and Mark Fernandez at the 17th hole.

Longest drive at the sixth hole was Joanne Catlin, the 2015 ladies champion at Oak Hill, while Paul Huhtala of the oil brotherhood had the honors for the men.

Heywood’s annual Golf Classic, now in its 23rd year, has underwritten a wide variety of Heywood initiatives and services over the years, including oncology, surgical day care, endoscopy, the Diabetes Center of Excellence and capital projects. Many participants, volunteers and committee members have been strong, long-time supporters, including Heywood Golf Classic Executive Chairman James A. Faust, MD and Chairman Chris Watkins, who have been with the tournament since its inception.
