Stu Krieger, screenwriter of animated classic The Land Before Time, on Curtain Call Podcast Ep 13

An in-depth conversation with the UCR professor on his successful Hollywood writing career, working with Steven Spielberg, and why writing for Disney seemed “inevitable”.

LOS ANGELES - Aug. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- For Episode 13 of Curtain Call Podcast, Stu Krieger (The Land before Time, Monkey Trouble) chats with hosts Chuck Clay and Carmen Gomez about being in a writer’s room with Steven Spielberg, the crush he’s had on Hayley Mills since childhood, and why he feels writing for Disney was “inevitable”.  Stu shares a wealth of knowledge and inspiration about living and working the creative life, how to avoid the pitfalls of Hollywood, and how “being present” is the most important lesson of all. The podcast, now in it’s 2nd Season, premiered September 2014 with an interview with actor and star of stage and screen, Arye Gross (ABC’s Castle).

Stu Krieger is a Professor of screen and television writing at the UCR Department of Theatre, Film & Digital Production. He co-wrote the Emmy award winning mini-series A Year in the Life and was nominated for the Humanitas Prize for the Disney Channel original movie, Going to the Mat. Among his more than 25 produced credits, Stu wrote the animated classic The Land Before Time for producers Steven Spielberg & George Lucas and ten original movies for the Disney Channel, including Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century and its two sequels, Tru Confessions, Smart House, Phantom of the Megaplex, and Cow Belles. His first full-length play, Chasing Smoke, debuted in a staged reading at Garry Marshall’s Falcon Theatre in Burbank in July 2014.

Podcast creator and host Chuck Clay says of the most recent episode (available Sept. 1), “Stu is a dream guest for this podcast. His incredible career, the wisdom he has to share, and his experience as an educator and mentor make him someone you should listen to when it comes to life advice.” Clay goes on to say, “In this industry there is no secret to success, but if there were, Stu Krieger would be the guy to ask.”

“Curtain Call Podcast was born out of my own curiosity,” Clay says. “I find it fascinating how different people discover their callings. With theater and with film, the stories vary but almost always speak to a sense of community. If anything, I hope this podcast can enrich and deepen that sense of community.”

Each episode (available on the first of each month) goes behind the scenes with the leading artists, technicians, and craftspeople on stage and behind the scenes of today’s vital and vibrant theatrical and film industry. This monthly interview program that spotlights the creative talents working in theatre and film across the country and around the world, gives listeners the chance to hear stories about what brought guests to the theater and what keeps them coming back time after time. A resource of interest to anyone in the performing arts, Curtain Call Podcast is available for free download from iTunes, Stitcher, and other fine purveyors of podcasts.
