ORANGE PARK, Fla. - Aug. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Executive Director Denton Yockey announces the largest Broadway season to ever be presented at Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts. The 2015-2016 Broadway Orange Park Season includes five nationally touring Broadway musicals: Ragtime, Annie, Always… Patsy Cline, Saturday Night Fever and the Northeast Florida Premiere of Once. Special holiday performances of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical have also been added for December.

“This season has been carefully planned with the audiences of Northeast Florida in mind,” said Executive Director Denton Yockey. “Through audience surveys and patron interaction we have learned that Broadway musicals are among the top requested shows at the Thrasher-Horne Center. We have developed our Broadway offerings as their own separate series to help fit the needs of our community and set it apart from the additional events and concerts we will be presenting during 2015-2016.”

The Broadway season begins with an all-new touring production of Ragtime on Thursday, January 7 and Friday, January 8 at 7:30 PM. The stories of an upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician unfold - set in turn-of-the-century New York - all three united by their desire and belief in a brighter tomorrow. Their compelling stories are set to theatre’s richest and most glorious Tony Award®-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.

The world’s best-loved musical, Annie, returns to the Jacksonville area on Thursday, February 4 and Friday, February 5 at 7:00 PM. Directed by original Lyricist and Director Martin Charnin and Choreographed by Liza Gennaro, this production of Annie will be a brand new incarnation of the iconic original yet includes such unforgettable songs as “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” plus the eternal anthem of optimism, “Tomorrow.”

Always…Patsy Cline plays Friday, February 12 at 7:30 PM and Saturday, February 13 at 2:00 PM. Based on the true story of Patsy Cline's friendship with Houston housewife Louise Seger Always…Patsy Cline comes complete with true emotion, down home country humor and, with 27 songs in the show, includes many of Patsy's unforgettable hits such as “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,”
“Sweet Dreams” & “Walkin’ After Midnight.” Always…Patsy Cline was Written and Originally Directed by Ted Swindley.

Saturday Night Fever dances into Thrasher-Horne Center on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 PM. One of the most beloved dance stories of all time in a spectacular new production, Saturday Night Fever is the coming of age tale of young Tony Manero who learns the value of life in 1970's Brooklyn. Based on the 1977 movie starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever is packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees, including "Stayin’ Alive," "Night Fever," "Jive Talking," "You Should Be Dancing," and "How Deep is Your Love," in addition to several new songs written especially for this production.

The Broadway season concludes with the Northeast Florida Premiere of the musical Once on Sunday, May 1 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards including BEST MUSICAL, Once is a truly original Broadway experience. Featuring an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments onstage, Once tells the enchanting tale of a Dublin street musician who's about to give up on his dream when a beautiful young woman takes a sudden interest in his haunting love songs. As the chemistry between them grows, his music soars to powerful new heights, but their unlikely connection turns out to be deeper and more complex than your everyday romance. Emotionally captivating and theatrically breathtaking, Once draws you in from the very first note and never lets go. It's an unforgettable story about going for your dreams... not living in fear... and the power of music to connect all of us.

Special to the season are two holiday performances of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM. The musical is based on the animated television special “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and the stage production directed and conceived by Jeff Frank and First Stage. See all of your favorite characters from the special including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius and, of course, Rudolph, as they come to life on stage.
