Professor Dewar said program would enable the LSRC academic to learn more about the Australian University system and share knowledge of the Indian system with La Trobe.

“We are proud to partner with Lady Shri Ram College for Women and look forward to working even more closely in future,” Professor Dewar said.

“Gaining international experience – both culturally and academically – is a fantastic opportunity that we want to offer to all of our staff and students.

“This will provide exciting new opportunities for staff exchange, as well as the sharing of research, teaching, and other programs.

In 1967 at its inception, La Trobe’s founders made a commitment to study the Indian subcontinent. This was reflected in staff appointments and the decision to purchase of the Borchardt Library, which boasts the most extensive collection of recent Indian artefacts in Australia.

These close ties were realized when Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited La Trobe University during her Australian tour in 1968, making her the first Indian Prime Minister to visit an Australian University.
