South Carolina-Based Physician Appointed to Board of Leading Organization in the Prevention of CVD

Director of Preventive Cardiology and the Seinsheimer Cardiovascular Health Program Joins Board of American Society for Preventive Cardiology

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Aug. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Pamela B. Morris, MD, FACC, FACP, FACPM, FAHA, FNLA, was recently elected to the American Society for Preventive Cardiology (ASPC) Board of Directors at its fourth annual Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Conference in Boca Raton, Fla.

“The interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach to preventive cardiology is the unique foundation of ASPC,” said Dr. Morris. “It is a great privilege to now serve on the Board of Directors and advance the important strategic initiatives of this visionary professional society.”

In recent years, the ASPC's focus shifted from acting as an insular organization of academic experts to one with a focused vision of the interdisciplinary value it can bring to the broader healthcare and scientific community. The society represents an increasingly multidisciplinary group of healthcare providers (including nurses, nurse practitioners, dieticians, and other healthcare specialists in addition to physicians) along with researchers and industry representatives who share an interest in and passion for preventive cardiology.

Dr. Morris is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Duke Medical Center. She has had career-long interests in cardiovascular disease prevention, clinical lipidology, preventive imaging, and gender-specific issues in cardiovascular care.

Currently, Dr. Morris is director of preventive cardiology and the Seinsheimer Cardiovascular Health Program, and co-director of women’s heart care at the Medical University of South Carolina. Previously, she has served as the medical director of the Duke University Preventive Approach to Cardiology program, now named the Duke Center for Living, and as consultant to the Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Health Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Morris is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, cardiac computed tomography, and clinical lipidology. Dr. Morris is a fellow of the National Lipid Association, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Preventive Medicine. She serves as the chair of the American College of Cardiology Prevention Leadership Council and Section, as secretary of the Southeast Chapter of the National Lipid Association, on the advisory board of the Cardiometabolic Health Congress, and on the Exam Committee of the Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
