(FTBA) for their participation in two major Design-Build Projects including a “Best in Construction Interstate Award” for the I-295 at Collins Road Interchange project in Duval County, FL and a “Best in Construction Design Build Award” for the County Road 210 project in St. Johns County, FL.

Highlights/Key Facts

Winning the “Best in Construction Interstate Award,” the I-295 at Collins Road Interchange project team included GAI’s Greg Aldrich, Project Manager; Sid Howell, Sr. Project Administrator; and Dennis Clarke, Lead Senior Inspector along with Superior Construction Co. (Prime Contractor) and the Florida Department of Transportation District 2.

The 30+ lane mile project included constructing a new interchange at I-295 and Collins Road as well as the Collector-Distributor (CD) concept to separate local traffic from through traffic starting at US-17 and ending at Morse Avenue.

These improvements have helped to relieve congestion on the I-295 mainline during peak traffic hours.

Winning the “Best in Construction Design Build Award,” the County Road 210 project team included GAI’s Bob Baxter, Project Manager, who was in attendance at the awards breakfast, and Project Engineers Matt Bolyard and Bobby Jamieson along with J.B. Coxwell Contracting (Prime Contractor) and the Florida Department of Transportation District 2.

It included a 6,484-ft of a new 2-lane alignment with a new bridge structure over the FEC RR and US-1, along with extensive wetland permitting.

GAI served as Prime Consultant for the $10-million design build construction project in St. Johns County, FL.

Quotes

Bob Baxter, Project Manager, GAI Consultants:

“GAI is proud to be part of this collaboration with FDOT and J.B. Coxwell Contracting,” offers Bob Baxter, P.E., Senior Engineering Manager. “The CR-210 project demonstrates that when the project team works together to solve a major challenge, successful projects are the result. To overcome the difficulties associated with logistical constraints working over the railroad right of way, a weathering steel superstructure solution was utilized. This alternative is unique in Florida, and the results will have a direct benefit to the taxpayer and the traveling public.”
