ThoughtShift Delivers Successful SEO Website Migration for Travel Company Smaller Earth

Smaller Earth is one of the UK's leading gap year travel brands, sending thousands of travellers abroad every year. Offering both volunteer jobs and gap year jobs Smaller Earth has over 70 different programmes that suit every traveller. In addition to this Smaller Earth also offers 18-30s group tours providing adventure travel experiences for young people in locations like Canada, South Africa and Australia.

ThoughtShift began working with Smaller Earth just before the launch of their new website and needed to ensure that a SEO migration strategy was implemented in order to maintain the brand’s authority and keyword rankings in Google.

ThoughtShift  mapped 301 redirects on a page by page basis to migrate authority from Smaller Earth’s old website. Additionally, Google Search Console (Google Webmaster Tools) was set up in order to submit the XML sitemap and ensure that all of the new website pages were indexed in Google. Referral traffic was gained from blogs such as goabroad.com and seasonalworkers.com sending relevant visitors back to the Smaller Earth website.
