Smith Crossing, Smith Village hold free support groups for families, friends of people with dementia

CHICAGO - Aug. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- In September, residents in and around Orland Park and Chicago’s Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood who provide care for older adults with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia will be able to take advantage of special programs offered by two of the area’s leading continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs).

    The first meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Smith Crossing, 10501 Emilie Lane (enter at 104th Avenue and 183rd Street). Leading the open forum discussion will be life enrichment director Dana Mahler anddirector of social services Amy Majcina.     Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, Smith Village’s memory support coordinator Diane Morgan will welcome a guest speaker to talk about hospice and palliative care. Jaquelyn Widmayer, hospice specialist at Gentiva, will answer questions such as, “When is a hospice appropriate?” and “Can the patient’s doctor tell me when it’s time?” Smith Village is at 2320 W. 113th Place, in the Beverly/Morgan Park area of Chicago.
