By: Carlisle Events Gates opened at 8 a.m. Friday and saw a rush of guests and enthusiasts. With FREE parking and a single day pass costing just $10, the event provided true bang for the buck. Day one included the always popular and increasingly crowded Gridlock Parade and Street Party, registration for the weekend’s automotive competitions, bingo for the ladies and kids activities as well as pony rides, live music from the Skyla Burrell Blues Band and the flame throwing car show. As the sun went down on the grounds, the Flames ‘R Us group shot flames 80+ feet into the air from the back of their specially designed cars, wowing a packed grandstand and showing why they were brought back by popular demand. Saturday was a home run day for the event and saw even more cars and people onsite than the day before. With many of the main activities taking place, including celebrity choice judging, everyone was primed for a day unlike any other in the events’ history. Two more bingo sessions packed the Educational Building, competitions like teeter totter, slow drags, muffler rap and burnouts took place as did a wing eating competition on the Quaker Steak & Lube stage. That stage also hosted the always popular band Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods to wrap the day. Before that; however, the grandstands were again packed for guests to check out the burnout contest as well as “The World’s Largest Demolition Derby” presented by JM Productions. On the final day of the show, a metal working seminar was held as was a non-denominational worship service via the Salvation Army. The real attraction for Sunday was the awards parade, running for more than an hour. This gave many guests a chance to take home some hardware, recognizing them for their hard work, dedication and efforts put into showing their car in 2015. One of the main attractions over the weekend was the Movie Car Madness display, where well-known vehicles like the General Lee, Bandit Trans Am, and even Christine were showcased. In addition to the great displays, there were multiple awards issued. One guest won $1,000 “just because,” while the Black Creek Cruisers were named the largest club. The anchor prize for 2015 was a perfect complement to the aforementioned Movie Car Madness display. For this prize, Andy Switzer took home a home entertainment set up valued at over $600. As promoted on WBRE/WYOU, this prize included a 40” flat screen TV, WiFi enabled Blu Ray player, vintage popcorn machine (and fixins’) as well as Red Box DVD rentals for one year. While this year’s show is a wrap, plans are ongoing for 2016. Save the date because next year’s fun takes place August 12-14. Registration is ongoing via www.CarlisleEvents.com or by calling 717-243-7855. End
