By: Lexington Avenue Press Catalano’s book Rand Unwrapped – Confessions of a Robotech Warrior describes his experiences as an actor on the ground breaking animated series. It is also a wonderful window into acting as a voice artist. Rand Unwrapped follows his successful theatre books Short Monologues for Auditions, Book to Screen, Art of the Monologue, The Creative Audience and White Knight Black Night. Art of the Monologue has been called a “great study for would be actors or comedians of any type” by Midwest Book Review. White Knight Black Night takes the performance of monologues one step further by focusing on the audition process. Catalano States: “I wanted focus on the very unique aspects that are present in the preparation and delivery of a short monologue as a sample of an actor’s ability to present a prepared memorized performance in an audition setting. The books contains sections covering monologue selection, memorizing lines, implementation strategies and a selection of seventy short monologues specifically designed to showcase an actor’s talent at an audition.” As a playwright, Mr. Catalano’s works have been produced in New York City, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Hawaii and Dayton, Ohio including The American Rose Garden, Cyclotron (La Mama, N.Y.C.), Evolution, Waiting For to Go (Kennedy Center, Hawaii), and Saturday Nights. Warner Bros. Studios optioned his play Autumn Sweet, produced by the Dayton Playhouse for film. Autumn Sweet, which has received, staged readings at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and the El Portal Theater in Los Angeles. His play The Resting Place has had a staged reading by the Echo Theatre Company as part of a grant from the Showtime Network and Myths and Tangos toured in Los Angeles. As an executive, Catalano has served in various capacities at Lorimar Studios, Beverly Hills Playhouse, and Southern California Center for the Arts and Warner Bros. where he had a “first look” writing deal for the development of television and motion picture properties. He has also written and performed in animated television series and feature films including DIGIMON DIGITAL MONSTERS, THE ADVENTURES OF DYNAMO DUCK for Fox TV, the Sci-Fi series ROBOTECH and ABC television series including LA LAW, NYPD BLUE, MURDER ONE, CIVIL WARS and UGLY BETTY. Catalano conducts seminars on acting and writing nationwide and has been a featured speaker at the Annual Writer’s Conference and Annual Stage, Screen and Television Actor’s Conference sponsored by San Diego State University.
