Fine Artist Bonnie Durham Returns To West Michigan For Artprize 2015

Bonnie Durham has been selected by Grand Rapids Downtown Market as a featured artist for ArtPrize 2015, an international art competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan, running September 23rd to October 11th, 2015. A native to West Michigan, Durham will showcase her art for the first time as part of this seventh annual, multi-venue, multi-artist, curated art competition, decided democratically by public vote and expert jury, with $540,000 in prizes awarded to ArtPrize 2014 artists by more than 440,000 visitors.

In ArtPrize 2015, Durham will transform an 8 foot by 60 foot wall inside the Grand Rapids Downtown Market into an hypnotic mural, titled All of a Sudden, highlighting her vibrant, saturated, geometric, illustrative style, as part of, "The most attended public art event in the world," heralded by The Art Newspaper.

Over the past fifteen years, Durham has showcased her contemporary, visual art in solo and group curations stateside from Maine to California, and internationally in Canada and the United Kingdom. Her work has been featured in Juxtapoz, Artist A Day, Lost at E Minor and the Portland Press Herald. Graduating from Hunter College in New York City with a BA in Studio Arts, Bonnie also worked for several years as a set designer, painting large scale backdrops and walls for various magazine shoots, including L'uomo Vogue, Barneys New York, and Essence Magazine. In her current work, Durham uses bold colors and graphic lines, making her art playful and approachable while demonstrating a precision through her scientifically-detailed illustrations often featured in her work.
