LOS ANGELES - Aug. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- As the wife of Jim Berenson, MD, a well-known doctor specializing in common forms of blood cancer, including multiple myeloma, Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia, amyloidosis and MGUS, Debra Berenson has had inside perspectives from both patients and doctors.

Over the years, Debra has developed close relationships with many of her husband’s patients, connecting to their emotional paths.  She has now created a book to support a patient’s journey using candid stories from patients as well as medical experts in the field.

“My plan was to create an easy-to-understand book for patients and their families—it is earth-shattering to hear that you are diagnosed with cancer,” said Berenson. “I thought it would be cathartic for patients who have these medical conditions to write down and share what they have endured and believed that it would also be helpful and informative to patients and their families and friends. In addition, doctors who specialize in the problems that arise from these diseases have also contributed their expertise,” she continued. “But, this book is really about strength, hope, and the will to survive.”

I Have What??? Written by Those Who Know!!!  ISBN number: 13:978-0-9962359-0-7.

In the United States, 27,000 people are diagnosed each year with multiple myeloma and more than 150,000 Americans are living with this disease. New cases of Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (WM) occur in 3,000 Americans annually and more than 20,000 are living with this cancer. Amyloidosis occurs about as frequently as WM, but only about 10,000 Americans currently have it. MGUS is very common with more than 3% of those over 50 years old, 5% of those over 70, and 10% of Americans over 80 years of age having this disorder.

Dr. and Mrs. Berenson will sign the book at the IMBCR Benefit on Sunday, September 13th from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
