The Transition Network’s DC Chapter Diversity and Community Impact Groups, together with Empowered Women International, are co-sponsoring a Panel on Empowered Women: Stories of Successful Immigrant Women on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 3-4pm.
 
WASHINGTON - Aug. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- The Transition Network’s DC Chapter Diversity and Community Impact Groups, together with Empowered Women International, are co-sponsoring a Panel on Empowered Women: Stories of Successful Immigrant Women on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 3-4pm,. This FREE event is part of Montgomery County’s 'New Americans Expo - 2015” at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring MD, and will feature women’s personal stories about the challenges they face as immigrants in this country.

This Empowered Women Panel is a great opportunity to hear first-hand the stories of immigrant women, and show your support for diversity and the immigrant community. The New Americans Expo, is open to the public from noon-6PM, and is an informative, community affair dedicated to immigrants who are adjusting to the culture and systems in this country.

Panelists include:
Sahar Khamis, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Communication, University of

Maryland, College Park, MD. Dr. Khamis, Moderator moderator and panelist
Joy Mbajah, Founder & Owner, Public Health Ventures in Washington, DC; EWI graduate.

Karla Silvestre, Director of Community Engagement, Office of Advancement and Community Engagement, Montgomery College, Rockville, MD

Lily Qi, Director of Special Projects, Office of the County Executive, Montgomery County, MD

Other panels at the Expo will address issues such as Children Escaping from Violence and Family Reunification; Latino Women Working Together, Discrimination, and Profiling and Stereotyping Minorities. Local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies that support immigrants will be there with materials on health, legal issues, finances, housing, education, family, job improvement, and all other services that are of importance to immigrants.

The New American's Expo is organized by the Montgomery County Office of Community Partnerships, in conjunction with the following private and public institutions: Ebru, Cuadri Communications, Conectate, and El Poder de Ser Mujer. With an extensive advertising campaign, this event will reach over 500,000 area residents.
