A World Tour Begins; Terra Rising's Documentary about Music Therapy Heads to Ecuador

ATLANTA - Aug. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Terra Rising Films is traveling to Guayaquil, Ecuador with Music Therapy Services of Portland for an International Music Therapy Symposium and training session, sponsored by the Regional Government of Guayas Province at the Prefecture Auditorium, September 1-4.  Ecuador will be the first international stop on Terra Rising's worldwide tour to complete their feature length documentary about the science, connection and history of music as seen through music therapy.   Terra Rising will also be filming local musicians, artists and doctors from September 4-7.

Angie Kopshy,  the Director of Music Therapy Services of Portland and the Vice President of the Oregon Music Therapy Association, was invited by regional government representative Aldo Farfan Sion, of the International Cooperation Department of Ecuador, to develop training programs, both in Ecuador and online, that will bring music therapy to people in need for the first time in Guayaquil's history.

"Music Therapy Services of Portland is excited to help CIE (Centro Integral de Equinoterapia) become the first institute in Ecuador to develop a program that focuses upon the therapeutic techniques of music," said Kopshy.

"In addition to preparing for our presentation at the International Symposium, our intern, Kate Lowen, has been busy translating some of the songs we use on a daily basis into Spanish to help train the hundreds of health and music professionals that will be in attendance,"  she added.

Aldo Farfan Sion has been a leader in developing music therapy programs in Ecuador, having already brought a group of volunteers from the United States to introduce music therapy to a group of health professionals in 2012.  He is now interested in developing Guayquil's first ever full functioning music therapy program in a country with limited music therapy resources.

"One of our main concerns is the lack of music therapists in the country.  This is why we have reached out to international volunteers that are now helping us through e-learning and on-site training to develop our very own music therapy programs here in Ecuador.  We hope to position the Regional Government of Guayas Province as the leaders in music therapy so that we can begin to cultivate and grow our own domestic music therapists,"  said Farfan Sion.
