Libertarians Endorse Independent Maps

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Aug. 7, 2015 - PRLog -- The Libertarian Party of Illinois voted unanimously last Saturday at its state convention to endorse the Independent Map Amendment (http://www.mapamendment.org/index.html) in Illinois. Many Illinois Libertarians had already started circulating the petitions to place a referendum on the 2016 ballot, giving Illinoisans the option to amend the state constitution. The amendment would create an independent committee to handle redistricting, and hence remove the power from state legislators who regularly rig districts to help ensure their re-election.
“This is a great step forward,” said Lex Green, Chairman of the Libertarians Party of Illinois. “Libertarians stand with the citizens of Illinois in favor of fair elections. Incumbent politicians have a stranglehold on government. If one thing exemplifies corruption in Illinois, it is the redistricting process. We, therefore, support this initiative to level the playing field and put political power where it belongs, in the hands of the people.”
