What makes Expressions so unique is its marriage between art and cuisine. Led by Greene, the chef team will create a multi-course meal inspired by McIver’s chromatically rich artistry and complemented with expert wine pairings. "I love being able to express myself through the food I create and often find solace in cooking. There is a healing process that takes place in all forms of expression and the encouragement and support the Lucy Daniels Center shows children allows them to do so. Being a new father, I understand now more than ever the importance of that kind of emotional support they provide", saysExecutive Chef Steven D. Greene. This year’s event will also celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the nationally renowned Center. Donald Rosenblitt, Executive and Clinical Director for Lucy Daniels Center states,"This year’s Expressions event is made even more special as we celebrate our Centers 25th year combining a broad spectrum of children’s mental health services with our pre-k – 5th grade school. And we are delighted to be commemorating this milestone at the Umstead with Beverly McIver." Local artist Beverly McIver is a well-known figure in the art world and was named among the “Top Ten in Painting” by Art in America. In 2011, she was the focus of an Emmy-nominated documentary, “Raising Renee,” about her experiences caring for her mentally disabled sister. "I am honored and excited to have been chosen as the featured artist for Expressions 2015. As an artist, I give myself permission to share my feelings without reservation through my works. The Lucy Daniels Center does this for children and families by allowing them to share their feelings and emotions without reservation through various modes of expression. It is a different kind of art but one that is equally necessary", said Beverly McIver. Expressions V. A Celebration of Food and Art will bring together philanthropists, food and wine enthusiasts and lovers of the arts for a common goal: to benefit children’s mental and emotional health. A limited number of individual tickets for Expressions V will be available in late September.
