SEDONA, Ariz. - Aug. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- “New Works by International Sculptor, Robert Holmes” opens Friday, September 4, at James Ratliff Gallery, Hillside Sedona, 671 State Route 179, Suites A1 & A-2, Sedona, AZ, with an opening reception from 5 – 8 PM. The Ratliffs will be on hand to greet guests and entertain any questions.  This exhibition will continue through September 19.

James and Patricia Ratliff are particularly honored to exhibit this iconographic exhibition of Robert Holmes.  James Ratliff explains:  “Before Robert began his dancer series, he attended many ballet performances and studio sessions to familiarize himself with the movements, expressions and gestures of dancers.  It’s amazing he was able to incorporate the fluidity of movement and grace that is so indicative of this art form in the challenging medium of bronze.  I think this is one of the elements that the public finds so collectible.”

For those who have not had the previous pleasure to be introduced to this sculptor, Robert Holmes is an American-born California-based sculptor who is described as "a master of form in motion." He exclusively creates bronze sculptures that are powerful public artworks in the midst of serene gardens, public spaces of corporate offices, private enclaves within residences or surrounded by congested downtown areas.

Holmes’ bronzes adamantly proclaim the interconnection of human life in perfect harmony and rhythm. His sculptures evoke the joy of living, of relationship, of connection.

Holmes’ long association with James Ratliff Gallery makes this event a celebration of Holmes' return.  Though a long-time resident of California (where he also maintains his own foundry), Holmes was a graduate of the University of Arizona with a major in civil engineering.

Through his work in many materials of construction and contracting and extensive travel, Holmes finally chose to pursue an exclusive dedication to create in bronze.  International patronage from Berlin and recipient of the Premio del Presidente/Citta di Firenze and the Premio Lorenzo il Magnifico medal for an artist’s lifetime achievement at the fourth edition of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy in December, 2003, Holmes has lived a charmed life as an internationally-recognized, genius sculptor of aesthetic and technical caliber.

Holmes’ works are characterized by meticulous technical prowess, inspiring the hearts and minds of those who cast their gazes upon them. His bronze sculptures at times feel gentle, and at others forceful, creating the illusion of standing in a space which causes us to ask, “How can we know the dancer from the dance.” (W.B.Yeats)
