SAN FRANCISCO - Aug. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Las Vegas-based Gemini Twin Productions’ Director of Marketing, Raymond Finn, will be donating services to provide marketing and promotional support to San Francisco educational services provider, Urban Ed Academy for the launch of their crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo, one of the largest funding platforms for charitable projects. Through its SMART Saturdays program, Urban Ed Academy, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, offers year round educational enhancement opportunities to 250 third, fourth and fifth grade boys on Saturdays and throughout the academic term.

Urban Ed Academy’s goal isto raise $10,000 by September 12, 2015 for the Fall School Year. Reaching the goal of $10,000 will enable Urban Ed Academy to continue to achieve success in meeting the educational needs of its Fall enrollees. Math and literacy are the “gatekeepers of citizenship” and the deadline for learning is alarmingly early. A U.S. Department of Education study concluded that students without appropriate math and reading skills by the sixth grade are unlikely to acquire them by the end of high school.

SMART Saturdays offsets the 200 educational hours lost due to absenteeism and disciplinary action, and transforms young boys, between seven and ten years of age, into eager learners who are ready to excel. SMART Saturdays provides a culturally relevant curriculum over 42 Saturdays each year to bring an additional 330 hours of learning to each boy’s educational experience.

Dwayne Jones, founder of Urban Ed Academy, adds “Urban Ed Academy assists boys of color in five key focus areas: Academic Enrichment, Character Development, Health and Recreation, Cultural Awareness, and Community Service. The Academy serves boys, who as a population, are diagnosed with ADHD three times more frequently than girls. The program provides the boys with opportunities that they might otherwise not have.”

About Urban Ed Academy

Urban Ed Academy is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that offers year round educational enhancement opportunities to 250 third, fourth and fifth grade boys on Saturdays and throughout the academic term. The innovative strategies of the SMART program builds academic proficiency and targets areas identified as most critical for the academic success of boys.

Founded in 2010, Urban Ed Academy uses a hands-on, interactive, culturally relevant approach to ensure students gain an understanding of themselves, the world around them, and how it applies to various academic and social settings. All academic courses are project-based and interdisciplinary to enhance the ability of students to see how traditional academic content is used in their everyday life. Course curricula infuse math, reading, writing, science, and social studies content with social justice, stewardship, leadership, and arts and culture projects and experiences to enhance student application of content. In addition, recreational and social development activities provide opportunities for students to interact with local mentors and enable them to see themselves in the future. www.urbanedacademy.org
