TouchStar releases shock absorbing Boston 8600 series for multiple industrial applications

Designed for the harshest environments, the Boston’s IP65 rating provides full protection against dust, water and oil ingress. The device can also withstand drops of up to 1.5m on to concrete and operate in temperatures of -20o C to +50o C, marking it as the most rugged terminal in its class.

In a unique move, TouchStar has incorporated Sorbothane material into the Boston 8600 design to protect the device from drops and vibration from rough road surfaces.  Sorbothane deforms to disperse shock waves laterally, immediately returning to its initial form so it can be fully operational within seconds . This eliminates shockwaves and vibration that can damage electronic components and reduce the lifespan of an electronic device.

With both pistol grip and non-handled form factors, the Boston is designed to be multi functional. The integration of 3G HSPA radio technology combines with the dynamic data collection capabilities of the high-resolution imager, 3-megapixel camera and high-speed 1GHz processor to deliver further productivity and efficiency gains.

The Boston 8600 runs on the established Windows, Embedded Compact 7 Operating System. The device weighs a mere 523g and also has a high impact 7” polycarbonate touchscreen that can be operated when wearing gloves.
