Serial entrepreneur Francisco Martin-Rayo certainly thinks so.  Martin-Rayo, CEO of Hear Your News, has developed a free app by the same name that allows users to listen to their favorite newspaper articles in a variety of voices.  “The app is perfect for people who want to listen to their daily articles while they drive to work or exercise.  That’s a huge market.”

In fact, 8% of all Americans spend more than two hours commuting to work and 16% of Americans like listening to podcasts while they exercise.  And unlike other competitors, Hear Your News allows readers to choose what newspapers and even what articles they’re most interested in.

The Hear Your News app is being touted as a potential savior to the news industry.  “A year from now we’ll have millions of users listening to Hear Your News and, like Pandora, every few articles we’ll play a short ad.  That way we can give back tens of millions in advertising revenue to your favorite newspapers and blogs.  Hear Your News to save the news!”

The company has already partnered with dozens of newspapers and, says Martin-Rayo, will continue to build out its platform to include thousands of newspapers around the country - and eventually, the world.  “I see a future where you listen to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal on your way to work, and then listen to Der Spiegel on the way home to practice your German.”

The app, Hear Your News, is now available for download in the App Store, and will be made available for Android devices next month.
