Nourishing Our Community With Healing Food, Love And Emotion

The Young-Wesenberg Foundation’s mission is to renew, restore and bring wholeness back to those with a serious life-threatening illness by organizing the community, youth and adult in providing healthy nutritional meals and education.

The Young-Wesenberg Foundation Dba: Thriving Foods co-founder Dr. Stacia Young-Wesenberg is a clinical Oncology Pharmacist with over 25 years of experience in healthcare. She recognizes the importance of diet and nutrition before, during, and after medical treatments. Her/our goal is to help individuals adjust to a cancer &/or life threating diagnosis and to continue to live normal, healthy lives. Thriving Foods supports individuals dealing with serious illness with free, delivered, and nutrient-rich prepared meals along with a community of nurturing support. We involve young people as volunteers, gardeners, and chefs who can experience the transformative power of serving and nurturing those in need while developing cooking and healthy eating skills. Educating the broader community about the connections between healthy food & healing is at the heart of what we do.

We believe that food is an important source of our ability to heal ourselves and is the foundation to long-term health and well-being. Thriving Foods combines direct support to people facing life threatening health challenges and supports long-term prevention of disease. Our community, youth and adults, not only feel good about their direct contributions to other peoples well being; they also learn life long lessons about the power of healing food. Moreover we strive to build meaningful relationships through community action that connects teens and adults in work that heals us all, engaging in positive work that transforms lives in our larger community.

To create healing meals, Thriving Foods embraces the American Institute of Cancer Research’s healthy plate format, with 2/3 of the plate consisting of plant-based whole foods, creating a meal that is composed primarily of vegetables, legumes and whole grains. This is accomplished with the support of our local growers and producers.  Fruits and vegetables are so important in the battle against cancer that some experts have said that cancer is a result of a “maladaptation” over time to a reduced level of intake of fruits and vegetables.

If need be, we will utilize our organizational officers and volunteers from the community (youth & adult) to achieve our goal. Occasionally (we may) request the services of independent contractors to assist us with scheduled (organizing) charitable fund-raising events.
