Travon Clifton speaks with Claudette Milner about her journey of surviving rape and molestation

Travon Clifton speaks on A Matter of Interpretaion about her present life of blessing and success and reveals her past of molestation at 6 years old by a family member and rape and in her teens, and told she was conceived in rape at the age of 18.

NEW YORK - July 29, 2015 - PRLog -- On July 12, 2015 A Matter of Interpretation hosted by Claudette Milner began its series on Violence Against Women. Our guest on July 26, 2015  was Travon Martin. Travon discussed her present success then her journey which began with molestation at the age of 6 years old. When she finally tells her grandmother she is advised not to tell her mother. She would remember this advice after date rape at 13 and molestation at camp. She leads us through the isolation and pain of the events to the renewing of her mind and spirit. Her story is the story of many boys and girls, women and men worldwide. Watch her story of a journey of faith.

Although Travon has been in the pro-life arena sharing her testimony for a couple of years, she's honed her personable skills working in media for nearly 15 years. She currently produces Equipped For Life with Pastor Christopher Brooks, a radio broadcast and outreach of Evangel Ministries in Detroit, MI. Prior to this, she worked with Dr. Glenn R. Plummer, President and owner of Christian Television Network.

Travon has also served as a Sunday school teacher for over a decade and became a licensed Baptist minister in 2009. Upon marrying in 2010, she became a member of Seth Temple Church of God in Christ, serving with her family under the leadership of Pastor Philip R. Jackson.

Janice Downs has provided services toward offender rehabilitation within the Indiana and Kentucky Prison systems for over 23 years. 16 of those years consisted of treating convicted sexual offenders who were incarcerated or released to parole or probation. She is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a BS in Special Education,Learning Behavior Disorders and Certified by the University of Louisville in Sexual Offender Counseling. She ultimately received the Directors Award inRecognition of Outstanding Service to the Division of Mental Health in 1999.She has continued her career obtaining certifications for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence and more recently in Drug and alcohol Addictions and Motivational Interviewing. Her main motivation throughout her career hasbeen for the safety and security of our community.

KALIMAH JOHNSON, LMSW, ACSW, LCSW
Kalimah is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Marygrove College and Founder/Executive Director of SASHA Center inDetroit, Michigan, she is also a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Consultant to the National Basketball Association, NBPA-Rookie Transition Program, Top 100 Camp, Michigan Elite 25 Camp and the NFL-Detroit Lions.

Ms. Johnson received her Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1996 and a Master of Social Work in 1997, both from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Her concentration was in advocacy, mental health and school social work. She is licensed in Michigan and Illinois as a clinical social worker.

Her practice experience has focused on providing a comprehensive range of services to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. She conducts workshops on topics of relationship safety, incest survival and community awareness relating to violence against women. Professor Johnson chairs the Sexual Assault Awareness Month event, "Take Back the Night-Detroit," sponsored by Marygrove College and the Women’s Center. She is founder of SASHA Center, an African-American not-for-profit agency providing culturally specific primary prevention workshops and support groups to African American survivors of sexual assault. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Michigan Coalition Ending Domestic and Sexual Violence. She is a performance poet and has published numerous articles in various mediums on the world-wide-web and authored a book titled, “Locs for Life: The Root to Wellbeing for African American Women.”

Ms. Johnson will share with our audience her research on Sexual Violence against African American women, and her work with women that have suffered sexual assault and domestic violence. She will also share her personal story.
