Baseliners 16U Place 5th at PONY Nationals

STERLING, Va. - July 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The Baseliners 16U went 6-1 this week to finish 5th out of 45 teams at PONY Nationals played in Loudoun County, Virginia. On Thursday the team went 3-0 in pool play by defeating the Eclipse Black from Massachusetts 11-3, the Midway Orange Crush from Delaware 4-3, and the South Jersey Mystics Gold from New Jersey 5-4. The team finished as the number one seed in their pool heading into the double-elimination playoff bracket.

On Friday the team continued playing solid defense behind the stellar pitching of Lillian Baker to defeat the Duchess Debs from New York 3-2 and earned a chance to square off with the Shooting Stars 16U Gold of Ashburn, Virginia (who finished 3-0 in their pool on Thursday) in a Saturday afternoon matchup. The game ended on a three-run walk off home run by McKenna Gallagher, giving the Baseliners the 8-5 victory. The team then defeated the Hammonton Tigers of New Jersey 7-4 earning them a spot in Sunday’s championship round. The game was highlighted by Emily Ford’s second home run of the tournament.

In Sunday’s early morning matchup held at Potomack Lakes Sportsplex the Baseliners came out on the losing end of 7-3 affair with the New York Inferno ending their great tournament run. The Baseliners team features players from Potomac Falls, Dominion, Tuscarora, Broad Run, Stone Bridge, Patriot, Westfield and Holton-Arms high schools.
