Iowa Foodservice Distributor Begins Another Expansion

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - July 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Despite recent merger complications between national competitors US Foods and Sysco Foodservice, family and employee-owned Martin Bros. Distributing is showing no signs of slowing down. Martin Bros. Distributing Co., Inc. recently broke ground on a new expansion to their Cedar Falls, Iowa facilities that will add 77,000-square-feet of warehouse space and create 35 additional jobs.

Martin Bros. has had eight major additions or remodeling projects since 1998. Construction of the new expansion is anticipated to be completed in 2016.

As a strong steward of the environment, Martin Bros. is including several energy efficiencies in the addition. The company will be investing in solar energy through Cedar Falls Utilities’ Simple Solar project, which will allow for use of more environmentally-friendly energy. In addition, LED lighting will run using occupancy sensors, which will reduce energy needs.

Martin Bros. is a full-line, independent, family-owned foodservice distributor that has been serving Iowa and seven surrounding states for 75 years. The company was founded in 1940 by brothers Roy and Glenn Martin – Jeff Martin's grandfather and great-uncle, respectively. Jeff Martin's brother, Brooks Martin, is Chief Executive Officer. Together, Brooks and Jeff are the third generation of Martins to run the company.

Martin Bros. proudly employs over 600 people, about 300 of whom work out of the company’s Cedar Falls facilities. Their Cedar Falls facilities are made up of four buildings located in the city’s industrial park and include the warehouse/operations center, a marketing center and a food market that is open to the public. The company also has a food market in Mason City, Iowa.
