LONDON - July 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Common Beliefs about Acne

Many people believe that acne is caused due to unhealthy diet or frequent consumption of excessive junks, pizzas, chocolates etc. People also believe that acne occurs due to too much exposure to pollution. Nonetheless, no scientific link between acne, bad diet and pollution has been delineated yet. These factors may worsen acne but they are definitely not the root cause.

Acne is basically caused by hyper secretion of androgen hormone. One encounters it during puberty and it is responsible the production of sebaceous oil on face. Due to the sebum secretion, the skin cells come on the surface and get clogged forming whiteheads. These whiteheads then form black tips giving rise to red, inflamed pimples. These pimples transform into acnes as the acne causing propionibacteriumacnes bacteria multiply. Not only teenagers but adult women also suffer from acne problem due to menstruation, menopause or pregnancy.

Acne Treatment Procedures

There are a number of cosmetic procedures for treating acnes and acne scars. They include Chemical Peels, Dermabrasion, Microdermabrasion and Laser Skin Resurfacing.

vChemical Peels: Chemical peels are extremely beneficial for acne scar removal and providing the skin with even tone. The surgeon applies the peels with cotton tipped applicator on forehead, cheeks and chin. There are two types of peels: Light and Deep. Light peels require no time to heal while deep peels take some time.

vDermabrasion: The procedure of Dermabrasion involves mechanical sanding of the upper layers of acne scars and formation of new skin layer.

vMicrodermabrasion: The procedure of Microdermabrasion involves gentle scraping of scarred surface with tiny particles passed through a vacuum cleaner. This removes scars and stimulates the growth of new cells. The procedure works great on patients with mild scars. One patient needs multiple sessions to get the best out of Microdermabrasion.

vLaser Skin Resurfacing: The procedure of laser skin resurfacing involves emission of a high amplify light for vaporizing the scarred layer of the acne producing new cell. Laser lights commonly used are pulsed dye yellow light laser, erbium YAG laser, and ultra-pulsed carbon di oxide laser.

vFor deep-pitted scars, the physician needs to make incision through the acne to cut out the tissue core after which the hole is stitched. Quite a few scars can be treated in one session by this procedure. The surgeon often extracts a small part of skin behind the ear to place it in the excised portion. The other scar removal or acne removal techniques include fat grafting, soft tissue augmentation etc.
