ACAC Hails New Hampshire Mold Law

PHOENIX - July 28, 2015 - PRLog -- The American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) applauds the decision of the New Hampshire legislature, which earlier this month passed a law regulating the mold assessment industry. The law breaks new ground by relying upon professional certifications to validate the expertise of mold assessors throughout the state.

Rather than creating a state licensing program for mold assessors, the New Hampshire law requires that all practitioners acquire and maintain a national third party certification, which is defined as “a certification approved by a national nonprofit organization whose programs are accredited by ANSI (American National Standards Institute), CESB (Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards), NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies), or any other accrediting body that operates in compliance with the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standard for accrediting organizations.”

At the time of this writing, ACAC certifications are the only mold assessment credentials that meet the new requirements. ACAC has offered CESB-accredited certifications for mold assessors since 2006, and NCCA-accredited certifications since 2014.

ACAC executive director Charlie Wiles was quick to recognize the significance of the state’s action.

“ACAC certifications – the oldest in our industry – attest to industry knowledge and verified field experience,” said Wiles. “By relying on the work we have already done, the New Hampshire law saves the state the trouble and expense of maintaining a costly licensing program.”

The New Hampshire law goes into effect on January 1, 2016.

The American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) is an independent, non-profit certifying body founded in 1992 to serve the indoor air quality industry. ACAC offers third-party accredited personnel certifications in fields related to indoor environmental consulting, remediation and management. For more information, visit the ACAC website.
