July 27, 2015 - PRLog -- JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 27 July, 2015 - Samsung Electronics printers and Multi-function Printers (MFP) were recognised for their excellence, receiving four 2015 iF awards, including one gold. The products receiving these accolades were the MultiXpress 4 (MX4), MultiXpress 7 (MX7), M5370 and the M45.

The iF Design Award is an international competition hosted by the International Forum Design in Germany. First held in 1953, the iF Design Award is one of the world’s three major awards in the printing category, along with the Red Dot Design Award and the IDEA Award. The competition is categorised into five categories: product, communication and packaging design, interior architecture and professional concept. International expert juries evaluated and analysed all the submitted products according to design, appropriate use of material and innovation. Among the 4,615 entries, the top 75 products received a gold award.

The Samsung MX4 led the way with gold. The accolade recognises not only the unit’s outstanding composition but also excellence in creating the industry’s first integrated identity. Developed specifically to enhance user experience, the product provides simple and fast usability by replacing complex feature buttons with a 10.1-inch tablet and Samsung’s highly acclaimed Smart User Interface (UI).

“We are always looking for ways to enhance user experience and value and we are thrilled to have our work recognised by the International Forum,” says Mike van Lier, Divisional Head of the Enterprise Business Division (EBD) at Samsung Electronics South Africa. “In the last years Samsung has become the first in the industry to receive iF Design gold awards for both the A4 and A3 printers. Both these products are based on the company’s philosophy of a cohesive concept that combines innovation with value.”

The MX7, M5370 and the M45 series were also recognised for their integrated and timeless composition.

Innovation in architecture

Samsung has created an integrated design identity and implemented it across their printer lineup since the release of the CLP-415 and CLX-4195 series in 2013, both of which previously won gold iF design awards. The pioneering concept splits the interface and the box and represents Samsung’s back-to-basics idea of keeping it simple, clean and timeless. In order to keep the model sleek and organised, the upper interface and lower storage are separated. The upper interface portion has an organic framework with a smooth look and feel, while the lower engine and storage section completes the overall look with an immaculate and neat shape.

According to Van Lier, the goal of the engineering process was to put the end user first, providing both value and long term reliability while also considering ease of use and ergonomics. The signature colour scheme includes a unique combination of warm and cool tones, adding sophistication to the otherwise dull achromatic features. The ebony brown interface and light grey storage combination matches the latest trends of using warm tones in the office environment.

Van Lier concludes: “The integrated blueprint provides higher value through shape, colour and usability. We were able to be creative in utilising the latest in ergonomic architecture concepts and we will continue to use this as the core of our mid- to long term strategy.”
