NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - July 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Sweethaven Gallery is featuring the photographs of Haverhill-based photographer Jim Fenton in a new exhibit entitled "The Avian Spirit ~ An Intimate Look,” which runs from August 15 through September 13, 2015. The public is invited to see the work at 25 L Inn Street in Newburyport during regular gallery hours: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sweethaven Gallery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

“What I attempt to bring to viewers is the essence of my subjects and the emotions that I experience from allowing myself to feel their energy,” explained Mr. Fenton.

Trained in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology, Fenton has been a nature photographer for the past 6 years and works with Nikon Equipment. His images have appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers, and websites. He is self-taught, with his talent springing from a love of nature in his teens and early twenties. His photography took a back seat to the responsibilities of raising a family and working until 2004, when he was able to pursue his passion full time.

A member of the Merrimack Valley Camera Club, he has received a number of awards, including Photographic Society of America “Best of the Best” awards for 2009 and 2010, and “Best of the Best in the International Projected Image” category in 2012. In 2014 and 2015, he was awarded “Photographer of the Year.”

While Fenton was an Artist in Residence for the Goldenrod Foundation in Plymouth, MA, in 2007 and 2008, he recorded the nesting piping plovers and terns and documented the seasonal use of this important barrier beach by migrating shorebirds. The culmination of this work was a two-year show called “Flight Path” at Plymouth Plantation.

He is a frequent lecturer to camera and birding clubs and also offers consultations on gear selection as well as individual or small group field instruction. To see more of his work, please visit www.natureandwings.com.

Sweethaven Gallery is owned and operated by local photographer Greg Nikas, who specializes in landscape images of Newburyport and Plum Island. To view his landscapes, please visit www.sweethavengallery.com.
