INACSL Announces the 2015 INACSL Awards for Excellence Recipients

MORRISVILLE, N.C. - July 23, 2015 - PRLog -- The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation & Learning (INACSL) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2015 INACSL Awards for Excellence.

“The Awards of Excellence acknowledges INACSL members for their contributions to the simulation community. Dr. Foronda, Dr. Mariani and Dr. Lioce have given their time and expertise to advance the science of simulation. These Awards of Excellence are a formal way to recognize the recipients and show our appreciation for their commitment to growing simulation,” said INACSL President Teresa Gore, PhD, DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, CHSE-A.

Each year INACSL recognizes colleagues in simulation for their dedication to the profession of nursing and simulation. For 2015 INACSL is honored to recognize individuals in three categories: Research, Academia and Service to the organization.

Excellence in Research Award
Dr. Cynthia Foronda, PhD, RN, CNE


Dr. Cynthia Foronda is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, Baltimore, Md. Dr. Foronda is celebrated by her peers asa pioneer in virtual simulation. Her research in virtual simulation includes teaching nursing students communication skills, leadership, evidence-based practice, disaster management and the art of instruction. Her work has provided some of the first evidence that virtual simulation is an effective pedagogy for nursing education. The Excellence in Research Award is given to an individual that has completed quality research in the field of nursing simulation.

Excellence in Academia Award
Dr. Bette Mariani, PhD, RN


Dr. Bette Mariani is an assistant professor and full-time faculty member in the College of Nursing at Villanova University, Pa. Dr. Mariani is celebrated by her peers for her outstanding enthusiasm, creativity and innovation in the delivery and dissemination of simulation based education. Her research in simulation has focused on structured debriefing, enhancing quality and safety in the clinical laboratory and a leadership development project focused on integrating structured debriefing. She is also involved in team research on the integration of simulation with standardized patients with disabilities, and with a Nicaraguan Simulation Tele Health program for community health workers. The Excellence in Academia Award is given to a member who demonstrates a sustained record of teaching excellence in Simulation Teaching and Learning in Academic Settings.

Excellence in Service Award
Dr. Lori Lioce, DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, CHSE, FAANP


Dr. Lori Lioce is the Executive Director of the Learning & Technology Resource Center and clinical associate professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Ala. Dr. Lioceis celebrated by her peers for her past and present substantial contributions to INACSL. Dr. Lioce demonstrates remarkable support of INACSL’s mission through her ongoing service to the organization, especially in her work as Chair of the Committee for Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM and her lead work on the development of the Simulation Design Standard. The Excellence in Service Award is given to a person who has demonstrated exceptional service to INACSL by fostering the organization’s goals.

INACSL formally recognized the 2015 winners during the 14th Annual INACSL Conference in Atlanta, Ga., on June 12, 2015. The INACSL conference is the leading forum for nurse educators, researchers, nurse managers and staff development professionals to gain current knowledge in the area of skills/simulation, lab management and simulation enhanced education. INACSL is an accredited provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
