BRADENTON, Fla. - July 23, 2015 - PRLog -- The public statement by NHTSA’s Mark Rosekind that the NHTSA will be pushing for a more proactive system of identifying and responding to unsafe or defective vehicles has been well received by auto accident attorney Bernard Walsh.

The NHTSA’s new effort was announced after they received a scathing report from the Department of Transportation’s Inspector General. The report criticized the NHTSA saying “failed to adequately investigate potential safety issues and struggled to keep up with automakers as they developed new parts and technology”. Additionally the report contained seventeen recommendations on how administrators at the NHTSA could improve the agency.

Mark Rosalind responded to the report by stating,”One of our agenda’s, clearly, because I keep talking about this, is to try and get the auto industry more proactive.” Further, Rosalind admitted the agencies deep challenges such as having just 8 employees to investigate more than 80,000 complaints.

Auto Accident Attorney Bernard F. Walsh had this to say about the NHTSA’s renewed effort,”I am pleased that publicly at least the NHTSA has responded to the DOT’s report in a constructive way. As a personal injury attorney for more than 30 years I have seen several inadequacies in the systems handling of auto recalls. Particularly the fact that after a recall has been mandated, dealers and private sellers are not required to disclose the recall to the buyer. It is my hope that the NHTSA will follow through on their stated goal of making both the auto industry and the government agencies more pro-active. Currently the US has more than 30,000 deaths on it’s roads every year, many of which could be caused by defective auto parts. If the renewed effort by the NHTSA saves even one life it will be worth it.”
